Sulfathiazole API is a white or light yellow crystalline granule or powder, odourless or almost odourless. When exposed to light, the colour gradually becomes darker. Slightly soluble in ethanol, very slightly soluble in water, easily soluble in sodium hydroxide test solution, soluble in dilute hydrochloric acid. It is used for pneumonia, haemorrhagic septicaemia and endometritis caused by sensitive bacteria in animals. Pharmacological effects It has the same antibacterial spectrum and mechanism of action as sulfadiazine, but its antibacterial effect is slightly stronger than that of sulfadiazine.

Sulfathiazole 99% API powder is easily absorbed internally, excreted slowly and the blood concentration can easily reach the effective level. Due to the low binding rate to plasma proteins (17% in dogs), it can easily pass the blood-brain barrier, so it can enter the cerebrospinal fluid to reach a high drug concentration, and its half-life in the body is 9.84h in dogs.

It is more effective against Streptococcus haemolyticus, S. pneumoniae, Salmonella and E. coli, but less effective against Staphylococcus.

Sulfathiazole pharm grade has a high serum protein binding and acetylation rate, and the solubility of acetylated sulphathiazole in urine is low, so it is easy to cause crystalluria and haematuria, other side effects are also more, excretion is fast, is a short-acting sulphonamide. It is a short-acting sulphonamide. Due to its low cost and availability, its antibacterial effect and efficacy are still good and it is still used in veterinary practice.
