Description

Aloeemodin is an anthraquinone compound with chemical formula C15H10O5. It is mainly derived from the dried roots and rhizomes of Rheum palmatumL, Rheum tanguticum maxim.ex Balf and Rheum officinale Baill of Polygonaceae plants.
Aloeemodin is the effective antimicrobial component of rhubarb. Bacteria sensitive to rhubarb include staphylococcus, streptococcus, diphtheria, subtilis, anthrax, paratyphoid and dysentery, among which staphylococcus and streptococcus are the most sensitive.Aloe emodin also inhibits the biosynthesis of DNA, RNA and protein in cancer cells.
